A bit about me

I have a passion for motorsport, cars, or anything with an engine. I'm a dog person. My favourite number is 26. I'm an dedicated follower of Rugby league and watch the mighty Leigh Leopards most weekends. Outside of that, I’m either drinking too much coffee, at the gym, or trying to make progress on a house renovation that never really ends.

The back story

I’ve always been into creating things.

Growing up, it was mostly drawing cars, planes, trains, anything with an engine. If it moved, I wanted to design it. That’s probably where the whole petrol head thing started, and not much has changed since. At some point, that interest in drawing turned into an interest in how things are put together visually. How something looks, how it feels, how it works. That’s what pushed me towards graphic design.

I went on to study Graphic Design, which gave me a solid foundation, but like most people in this industry, a lot of what I’ve learned has come from actually getting stuck in and doing the work. Early in my career I was exposed to different areas of design, and over time that turned into working across branding, web design, UI/UX and digital. I’ve never really liked being boxed into one thing. Understanding how everything connects usually leads to better work.

Over the last 10 years I’ve had the chance to work with some great companies, which has given me experience working at scale and seeing how design fits into a much bigger business. One thing that’s always stayed the same though is how I approach it.

I’ve never been interested in overcomplicating things. I prefer a clean, simple approach, backed by clear thinking and a proper understanding of the problem. Creativity matters, but it has to work in the real world as well. That way of thinking has naturally led me into leading teams, where a big part of what I do now isn’t just designing, but helping others develop ideas, communicate properly and produce solid work consistently.

And outside of all that, I’m still the same person who was drawing cars as a kid, just with a bit more experience, a bit less free time, and a house renovation that keeps reminding me there’s always something else to sort.
